Jump Force for PC is a crossover fighting game, aimed at fans of Japanese manga magazine Shonen Jump. The game was released to honour the magazine’s fiftieth anniversary. The original game featured forty playable characters from sixteen different manga tales and series, while upgrades and expansions included another nine characters, for a total of fifty-one characters to choose between.

About the Game

The game’s premise is very simple: battle the opposition until their health metre is completely depleted. You choose three characters for your team and can hop from one to the other using each character’s unique skills and strengths to outwit and overpower the enemy team, also comprising three characters.

You can choose from any of the fifty-one included avatars, plus you can invent your own character, customising it to suit your tastes and working to increase their powers and skills with power-ups and additional extras.

Same Control/ Different Reaction

Each character has different signature moves that are triggered by button presses. But you do not have to sweat to learn different controls for each different move: the attack buttons are the same for every single character, the only difference being what pressing that button makes the character do.

Each character can also do combo moves, by pressing multiple buttons, and the team as a whole will work to defeat the enemy, so it is not a case you needing to jump from character to character to try to get them all working: all respond to your character’s actions

Series Featured in the Game

Shonen Jump is responsible for some of the best-known and loved manga series, both in Japan and all over the world. Here are some of the series whose characters appear in this game:

• Bleach: One of the best known manga series that has crossed over into Western popularity, there are six characters from Bleach that you can choose between. They include: Ichigo Kurosaki, Rukia Kuchiki, Renji Abarai, Sosuki Aizen, Toshiro Hitsugaya, and Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez, the latter two being two of the nine downloadable additions
• Dragon Ball: Another name that will need no explanation in either the East or the West, this series has spawned books, movies and standalone video games. Play as your favourite character, choosing between: Son Goku, Vegeta, Trunks, Piccolo, Frieza, Cell and Majin Buu, the latter being a DLC addition
• Naruto: Recently recognisable to everyone, even non-gamers thanks to ‘Naruto run’ going viral and even making it to the mainstream news, Naruto is possible the best known manga series. You can play as: Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, Kakashi Hatake, Gaara, Kaguya Otsutsuki, or Madara Uchiha. Again, the latter is a downloadable character
• Yu-Gi-Oh!: Well known as a card game as well as a manga series. It is extremely meta, being a game about gaming, and this is perhaps why it has done so very well. Choose between: Yugi Muto (aka Yama Yugi) and Seto Kaiba the latter being a downloadable extra
• Other games that have characters featured in the game include: My Hero Academia, YuYu Hakusho, Black Cover, Saint Seiya, One Piece, Rurouni Kenshin, City Hunter, Dragon Quest: Adventure of Dai, Fist of the North Star, Hunter x Hunter, and Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, amongst others including a spin-off from Naruto called Baruto, Naruto Next Generations
